Overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work directly with a happy, fun-loving 8-year-old girl with complex needs in her family home. The family are looking for a female children’s support worker to promote and support the holistic wellbeing of this bubbly little girl. The successful candidate will be kind, caring, reliable and supportive.
We are offering excellent rates of pay and are keen to find people to join the team for the long term as continuity of care and building trust is very important for this child and her family. This is a very rewarding role in which you will be making a positive impact in the child and the family’s life.
Child profile
The client has cerebral palsy, is a full-time wheelchair user, and is dependent on adults to meet all of her needs. She enjoys her food and is reliant on adults to prepare and feed her. She requires regular medication and needs full support meeting her personal care needs. She is a happy, sociable and enthusiastic girl who loves chatting, laughing, music, books, accessing the outdoors and bouncing on trampolines. She lives with her parents and siblings in a non-smoking home. Her parents work collaboratively with the care team and are warm and welcoming.
Hours and Pay
* Waking Nights: Saturday and Sunday nights weekly, 8pm – 8am.
* Weekday days: 8am – 8pm
* Weekend days: 7am – 1pm
* Monday – Friday days and nights: £17 per hour
* Weekends: £19 per hour
* Bank holidays: 1.5 times the usual weekday hourly rate
* There may be opportunities for additional hours and overtime
Hours flexibility
Hours are flexible and open regarding the working pattern during the interview process, with a mix of permanent after-school hours as well as weekend days or nights.
Responsibilities
* Provide assistance with all of the child’s care and observational requirements including personal care, continence care, dressing/undressing and care needs.
* Fully support all aspects of the child’s ongoing rehabilitation as set out by treating therapists and professionals.
* Maintain a safe environment for the child in the home and during community-based activities where applicable.
* Report any concerns regarding the child’s medical, physical or psychological health to the employer and case manager, and record appropriately.
* Follow care plans, risk assessments and routine plans.
* Engage and have regular contact with the case manager; accompany the family on holiday both in the UK and abroad if required.
* Fulfill client-related household tasks as needed and be flexible to cover for periods of sickness or annual leave within the team.
* Provide excellent communication with a high standard of written and spoken English and proficiency in record keeping; comfortable with basic IT skills.
* Work well both as part of a small team and independently to self-direct tasks and activities for the client.
* Maintain confidentiality of all matters relating to the child’s situation and family.
* Adhere to CQC compliance in relation to the delivery of care and support.
Qualifications and requirements
* Fun, enthusiastic and happy
* Full clean UK driving license
* Experience of working with children; ideally with cerebral palsy and/or epilepsy
* Experience of working in a private family home is beneficial but an appreciation of sensitivity, respect and privacy is essential
* Willingness to attend training sessions and meetings as required
* Willingness to engage and have regular contact with the case manager
* Open to accompanying the family on holiday
* Happy to fulfil some client-related household tasks
* Ability to offer flexibility with working times to cover sickness or annual leave
* Excellent communication skills with a high standard of written and spoken English and proficiency in record keeping
* Comfortable with basic IT skills
* Ability to stay calm in a stressful environment and respond to instructions
* Enjoy working as part of a small team, while also able to self-direct tasks
* Ability to follow care plans and risk assessments
