Job overview

We are looking for two motivated and enthusiastic individuals to become members of our Outpatient Reception team.

We have two roles of 37.5 hours and 30 hours per week split across the five Outpatient Reception areas of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Duties include greeting and arriving patients and their families, clinic preparation and general clerical duties under the supervision of the outpatient reception team leader.


Main duties of the job

Communication:

* To liaise with wards, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as and when necessary
* To show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out reception and appointment duties
* Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
* To show a caring and professional approach towards patients, relatives and carers. This may require acting with resilience to deal with sometimes distressed patients and relatives in an empathetic manner

Person specification


Knowledge and Experience

* Previous receptionist experience in a healthcare or public setting
* Previous NHS experience
* Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception


Qualifications and Training

* Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
* Supportive
* Respectful


Skills and Abilities

* Excellent/professional telephone/ reception manner
* Flexible approach to duties
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
* Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
* Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
* Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
