Overview
As the Design Manager in Nottingham, you will be working as part of an established, successful design team leading the design process on varied construction schemes. You'll promote integration of disciplines and select, manage and appoint design consultants to ensure they perform in line with their professional appointments and agreed scope of services. This Design Manager job involves responsibility for monitoring and reporting on design programmes and also provide technical support to the bid process. You'll be managing multiple construction projects at various RIBA stages from tender stage, through live construction delivery to practical completion. This is an excellent design leadership opportunity for an ambitious Design Manager or Technical Manager looking to advance their construction career with a respected Midlands-based main contractor.
Responsibilities
* Chair design team meetings
* Lead the design coordination process to produce accurate technical information in line with agreed specifications and cost plans / estimates
* Produce construction designs to meet all necessary statutory and regulatory approvals including Building Regulations
* Develop design programmes with architectural consultants and engineers to meet agreed construction programme dates
* Appoint and manage design consultants including architects, structural engineers and M&E specialists, ensuring performance in line with their professional appointments
* Provide cost-effective technical solutions
* Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 regulations
* Proactive, positive and confident communication at all levels and ability to work as part of a team
Qualifications and Experience
* Architectural, Design Management, Construction Management or construction-related degree
* Proven experience working as a Design Manager for a construction main contractor on similar projects
* Experience across pre-construction and construction delivery phases
* Excellent communication skills
* Positive, driven and team-oriented attitude
* Ability to operate autonomously and as part of wider construction teams across the business
* Understanding of CAD software, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and various construction technology platforms
* Desirable: RICS membership or working towards chartered status
* Experience with BIM coordination and digital construction processes
* Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
* RIBA stage management experience
* Understanding of Building Regulations and planning processes
