At Moody's, we unite the brightest minds to turn today’s risks into tomorrow’s opportunities. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You may still be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We seek candidates who embody our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

The key responsibilities include:

1. Macroeconomic modelling and time series econometrics.
2. Qualitative analysis on recent developments, outlook, and risk through effective writing.
3. Country-level and subnational forecasting across a wide range of macro indicators.
4. Programming, data analysis, and large model management.
5. Documentation, including model specification, estimation, and validation.
6. Client satisfaction, including speed and quality of responses to client queries.

The Economics team, within Moody's Banking unit, is a leading independent provider of economic, financial, country, and industry forecasts and research designed to meet diverse planning and information needs of businesses, governments, financial institutions, and professional investors worldwide.

Our research spans country analysis, financial markets, industrial markets, and regional markets. Our services support strategic planning, product and sales forecasting, risk management, and investment research.

Role/Responsibilities

The primary role is to generate country-level and subnational economic forecasts. The economist will also contribute to our global model development team, building and maintaining models used for projections, including machine learning projects with generative and agentic AI tools.

Besides quantitative analysis, the economist produces qualitative written analysis and chart presentations to help clients understand recent developments, outlook, model methodology, and risks. With experience, economists will engage more directly with clients through outlook presentations and product demonstrations.

Qualifications

Required:

* Strong academic background – Ph.D. or Masters in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or relevant technical subjects.
* Experience in quantitative modelling demonstrating knowledge of macroeconomic theory and time-series econometrics.
* Familiarity with international economic theory, finance, trade, macro, or econometrics is desired. Diverse expertise and interests are encouraged.
* Solid programming skills, proficiency in at least one major language (e.g., Python), and ability to learn new tech skills independently. Familiarity with EViews is a plus.
* Excellent writing, presentation, project management, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

* Experience with machine learning projects, especially developing generative or agentic AI applications, and familiarity with frameworks like LangChain or OpenAI.

As part of the global model development team, candidates should be able to collaborate across time zones and work independently. A proactive, self-driven approach and client-focus are essential. Attention to detail and high-quality standards under tight deadlines are crucial.

Moody’s is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any characteristic protected by law.

Applicants may be asked to disclose securities holdings per Moody’s policies, and employment is contingent upon compliance with these policies.
