Rate of Pay: £21.25 - £26.72 per hour
Summary:
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking an experienced Planning Officer to join the Major Applications Team within the Planning & Building Control division. The role will focus on managing a varied caseload, including smaller major applications, pre-applications, and discharging conditions and legal obligations for some of the Boroughs largest development schemes.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in development management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, developers, and the public to deliver high-quality outcomes.
This is a temporary position to support increased workload within the team.
Responsibilities:
* Examine, evaluate, and process planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts and related legislation.
* Assess development proposals against national, regional, and local planning policies.
* Assist in the supervision, mentoring, and training of junior staff where required.
* Respond to enquiries from developers, the public, councillors, external authorities, and stakeholders.
* Represent the Council at meetings, public forums, working parties, inter-borough consultations, and Government discussions on planning and regeneration matters.
Qualifications:
* Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Town Planning or a related subject.
Requirements:
* Minimum 2 years experience in a development management planning role.Demonstrable experience of handling planning applications, pre-applications, and conditions.
* Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy frameworks, and development management processes.
* Proven ability to engage with developers, councillors, and members of the public effectively.
* Experience of preparing committee reports and presenting to committees.
