PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: up to £45,900 (Plus London weighting allowance) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The BBC is looking for a qualified Senior Transport Manager to join our Media Operations team.

BBC MediaOperations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC’s news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online. Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart. Working closely together with our editorial colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily. The team is also responsible for the management of production services, stores, and fleet vehicles and some OB bases in England.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Our small transport team is essential in ensuring that our fleet of vehicles, ranging from pool cars to our largest outside broadcast vehicles, are compliant and roadworthy while ensuring best value for licence fee payers.
The key purpose of the role is the forward planning and coordination of vehicle maintenance and compliance operations at our transport bases to maintain quality and standards. You will work closely with operational managers and leads in order to meet the changing needs of our outside broadcasting and transmission schedules. The Transport Manager will liaise with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of services. You will be the named person on the operator license for the traffic area of London & South East England and other areas as appropriate. The successful candidate’s appointment is subject to formal acceptance by the Traffic Commissioner as an appropriate Transport Manager. The role will be based between our two current London OB bases, in NW10 and W3.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in a transport industry role, will hold a Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage) Level 3, has demonstrable practical experience in ensuring the maintenance and roadworthiness of large vehicles. An LGV1 driving license is desirable but not essential.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate a highly developed approach to managing statutory compliance requirements within a creative and dynamic organisation.
You will need to operate at a strategic level but be a hands-on problem solver when required.
You will have strong influencing skills and be adept at effectively communicating complex messages at the appropriate level of detail to stakeholders at all levels.
You will be results-oriented and have a commitment to achieving results with and through other people.
At least 2 years previous experience of interpreting and working with complex statutory frameworks such as those regulated vehicle operating centres and the management of driver hours is essential.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
IOSH, NEBOSH, Driver Assessor / Trainer experience and/or qualifications, Class 1 or 2 drivers licence or similiar qualifications are desirable, as is an understanding of programme-making and newsgathering requirements.
