Overview
My Client is recruiting for an EICA Design Lead Engineer in the Water Sector. This role requires expert knowledge in Electrical Engineering, including Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design with a specific focus on the water/wastewater treatment industry. The EICA Design Lead Engineer is expected to support projects in municipal settings and the industrial sector, providing design leadership and mentorship within a multi-disciplinary design team.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer will play a major part in solution selection, EICA design, application engineering, proposal support and operational support. Experience in the development of the whole cycle of treatment processes from concept and detailed design through commissioning and handover is essential. The role emphasizes quality, safety and commercial drivers, and requires an innovative approach to bespoke projects. Electrical safety in equipment selection and installation should be promoted across the organization.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer UK reports to the Design Manager UK. The role may require supporting the design of Company projects based in Ireland, including internal check and review processes and occasional design input on projects.
Responsibilities
* Supporting the Design Manager to deliver Group design works across the UK for public and private sector clients (with occasional support of projects in Ireland).
* Perform preliminary and detailed EICA design of water / wastewater treatment plants.
* Apply appropriate software to provide advice, solutions and successful outcomes to achieve contract objectives.
* Develop and adopt standards in design to streamline engineering tasks.
* Liaise and develop relationships with external consultants, supply chain partners, contractors and other stakeholders.
* Determine the applicable design and installation standards, and ensure they are applied on projects.
* Mentor, train and provide guidance to staff within the EICA engineering team.
* Develop cable schedules, block diagrams, and single line diagrams.
* Plan and develop electrical layout drawings, including cable runs and ducts, using CAD packages or software as applicable.
* Develop motor and instrumentation schedules, drive and load schedules, and hardwired interlock schedules.
* Experience of developing I/O, FDS and Control Philosophies for water and wastewater infrastructure.
* Contribute to functional design specifications and execute testing (FAT and SAT) of MCC and control panels.
* Inspect and assess electrical installations; assist the development of commissioning procedures and project-specific plans.
* Assist the commercial/estimating team in developing CAPEX and OPEX models for electrical, instrumentation, control and automation equipment and systems.
* Prepare technical specifications and reports; occasional travel to project sites may be required.
Experience and Qualifications
* Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Significant experience in EICA Design in the water / wastewater sector.
* Chartered status preferred; working towards Chartered status is essential.
* Professional Membership of a relevant institution.
* Proven experience in delivery of technical designs and excellent technical and commercial knowledge of electrical infrastructure design, construction, and commissioning.
* Experience of electrical installations, MCC, SCADA and PLCs in the water / wastewater industry.
* Familiarity with design of site power distribution, cabling, pumps, DOL and start-delta drives, variable speed drives and motorized plant common within the water / wastewater industry.
* Strong organisational skills and report writing experience with knowledge of relevant electrical standards.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software.
* Ability to work efficiently alone or in a team; strong people skills and attention to detail.
* Full and clean UK driving licence.
