CORE PURPOSE We require an exceptionally holistic, expressive Art Teacher to deliver rich, immersive fine art, textiles, and traditional craft instruction across Lower, Middle, and Upper School cohorts. Operating within a progressive Steiner-Waldorf framework, the successful candidate will facilitate an arts-integrated curriculum that explicitly rejects standardized testing pressures, focusing instead on nurturing the child’s natural imaginative capacities, emotional resilience, and tactile intelligence through deep engagement with organic media and historical artistic traditions. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Phenomenological Art Instruction: Plan and deliver immersive studio sessions rooted in observation, light, and colour theory, guiding pupils through fluid watercolour painting, charcoal drawing, stone carving, and woodblock printmaking. Main Lesson Integration: Collaborate creatively with class teachers to deliver cross-curricular, artistic modules that weave visual art directly into the study of history, literature, mythology, and geometry. Traditional Craft & Media Mastery: Manage a tactile, low-tech studio space focused heavily on sustainable and natural materials, instructing pupils in hand-spinning, natural dyeing, pottery, and traditional metalworking techniques. Holistic Pupil Observation: Move away from numerical data matrices to implement deep, qualitative assessment routines, tracking a pupil's developmental journey and spiritual-emotional maturity through their creative output. Restorative Community Stewardship: Undertake comprehensive pastoral and circle-time responsibilities, leading seasonal festival preparations and maintaining open, collaborative relationships with families to support the holistic welfare of the child. ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE Alternative Pedagogical Framework: Operating outside the constraints of the state-mandated National Curriculum, our academy designs its entire structure around the natural developmental cycles of childhood. The school operates with complete freedom from rigid numerical grading grids, exam league tables, and electronic screen distractions. Egalitarian Campus Culture: The school operates with an open, non-hierarchical, and collaborative management model. Classrooms are designed as warm, sensory-rich spaces where a gentle rhythm replaces frantic bells, fostering a calm, focused, and deeply respectful environment for creative exploration. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: A recognized degree in Fine Art, Sculpture, or a relevant creative discipline. While a standard teaching qualification is valued, a deep understanding of, or a formal qualification in, Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy is highly desirable. Experienced practicing artists with a passion for holistic education are strongly encouraged to apply. Artistic Versatility: Exceptional proficiency across a broad range of traditional visual media, with a specific focus on working with natural, sustainable, and raw materials. Philosophical Alignment: A profound commitment to holistic child development, showing the patience, emotional presence, and philosophical flexibility required to thrive in a screen-free, alternative educational setting. REGIONAL CONTEXT Severn Loop Geography & Shropshire Artisanship: Nestled within the loop of the River Severn in the historic market town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, the academy is surrounded by an exceptional landscape of medieval architecture and independent craft culture. The proximity to the Shropshire Hills provides an abundance of raw materials and immediate access to the natural world for outdoor sketching and ecological art modules. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus is well-connected for commuters across Shropshire and the West Midlands, utilizing simple road connections via the A5, A49, and M54 motorway links. Shrewsbury railway station serves as a nearby transit hub, running regular Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway services directly to Telford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, and Chester.
