Our Bakery
We opened in April 2013 and currently employ about 30 staff, some of whom worked for the former Satterthwaites. We sell traditional pork pies and sausage rolls, the bread is freshly made and baked on site and our famous Bavarians are still a bestseller. We also sell more modern cakes, such as Biscoff Millionaires and NY Cookies, in addition to the old favourites like Chocolate Eclairs and Iced Buns. We have recently started making sourdough and we would like to expand our range of sourdough and other breads.
Job purpose
Reporting to the Directors, this is a hands-on role producing bakery goods, with overall responsibility for the production of bread. We are looking to grow this area of the business by working on consistency and improving the process, so this is a big part of the role. The role will also involve managing staff, production flow and delivery of goods to the shop and wholesale customers.
Main Responsibilities
Hands-on role producing bread (including sourdough) and baked goods to the highest of standards.
Overseeing and managing staff day to day to produce the required quantity of products efficiently.
Planning and managing labour, stock availability and production targets and reacting quickly if changes need to be made to the plan. Use a planning spreadsheet to oversee and manage the production.
Monitoring the progress and implementing actions to make sure that the products are made on time.
Reviewing recipes and making improvements where necessary to improve quality and speed up production.
Monitoring food safety issues and carrying out regular inspections.
Managing the packing and despatch of products in the bakery for the shop and wholesale customers.
Managing staff discipline, holidays and absence.
Essential experience and skills
You will be an experienced artisan bread baker
You will have hands-on experience of running a team and working in a small to medium sized bakery
You will need a good understanding of HACCP and food safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Food Hygiene qualification minimum level 2.
Hours & Benefits
Hours of work likely to be 37.5 hours a week 5am - 1pm, 5 days a week
Good flexible working environment with a small friendly team.
