Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to join the Aero Innovation team within the Motorsports Aerodynamic Department at General Motors. This onsite role is based in Stockport, UK, and reports to Concord, NC, USA. The successful candidate will develop mechatronic systems to enhance aerodynamics development for motorsport and high-performance vehicles, working in a multidisciplinary team to design, develop, and optimize innovative solutions that improve our competitiveness.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and integrate complex mechatronic systems for automotive and aerodynamic testing.
* Create system architectures and specifications aligned with product requirements.
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to develop solutions.
* Liaise with suppliers, evaluate components, and select appropriate technologies.
* Conduct testing, analysis, and debugging to ensure system performance and reliability.
* Oversee prototype and production solutions, including mechanical design, PCB layout, and software integration.
* Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* 5+ years of experience in mechatronics engineering with a successful track record.
* Strong understanding of multidisciplinary system design, CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA), and embedded systems programming (C, C++, Python).
* Experience with sensors, actuators, control systems, and power electronics.
* Excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.
Preferred:
* Master’s degree in relevant fields.
* Experience in automotive, motorsports, or aerodynamics testing.
* Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink, advanced CAD skills, and control systems knowledge.
