Salary – Up to £45,000, OTE £30,000
We are seeking a high-energy Business Development Manager to join a fast-growing social housing technology start-up, focused on expanding market presence across local authorities, housing associations, and related partners. Ideally based between Birmingham and Manchester (with flexibility across the Midlands and North), you will play a pivotal role in bringing an innovative, in-demand product to a large, largely untapped market.
We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager based between Birmingham and Manchester (with UK‑wide travel), to drive growth for an innovative social housing technology startup.
The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving and exceeding ambitious sales targets by generating and converting new business opportunities within the social housing sector. You will focus on proactive prospecting, including high-volume outbound calling, social selling (particularly via LinkedIn), and regular attendance at industry events and exhibitions to build and nurture a strong pipeline of opportunities.
You will own the full sales cycle from lead generation through to closing, working closely with the founder, junior sales team, marketing, and distribution partners to maximise market penetration. Using your existing network and sector knowledge, you will develop and grow key accounts across housing associations, local councils, and related stakeholders, ensuring a consultative, solution-led approach that drives sustainable revenue growth and supports the company’s long-term expansion plans.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in B2B sales, with a proven track record in business development or field sales, ideally in social housing, local authorities, or related public-sector markets. Experience selling technology, SaaS, or technical solutions into housing associations or councils will be highly valued. You must possess strong commercial acumen and the ability to convert leads and demos into revenue, consistently building and managing a healthy sales pipeline. Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential, alongside the confidence to represent the business at networking events, exhibitions, and client meetings across the UK.
A degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred but not essential, where there is clear evidence of high sales performance and sector knowledge. You should be self-motivated, target-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where autonomy, resilience, and proactive prospecting (including cold calling and outreach) are key. Familiarity with CRM systems, data-driven decision-making, and leveraging social media (particularly LinkedIn) for B2B engagement is advantageous.
