Job Title: SC Cleared Virtualisation Engineer (Oracle / Elasticsearch)
Contract Length: Initial contract (long-term programme with extensions)
Location: Hybrid for the first 2 to 3 months and then remote after
Start Date: ASAP
Clearance Required: Must be holding active SC Clearance.
We are seeking experienced Virtualisation Engineer to support a critical, large-scale legacy platform within a complex enterprise environment.
This role focuses on supporting and evolving legacy systems, working across infrastructure, databases, and applications, while driving improvements in automation, reliability, and DevOps practices.
You will join a platform team responsible for maintaining and enhancing systems that are central to operational delivery, working closely with engineering and programme stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and maintain legacy applications and infrastructure (L3 support)
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and platform issues
* Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines
* Support and optimise Oracle database environments (11, RAC, RMAN, Partitioning)
* Maintain and support Elasticsearch platforms
* Work with containerised environments (Docker) and virtualised infrastructure (VMWare)
* Manage and support web/application servers (Nginx, Apache Tomcat)
* Maintain system documentation and contribute to best practices
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability and performance
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team capability
Required Skills and Experience
* Strong experience supporting legacy systems and complex enterprise environments
* Proven experience with Oracle databases (installation, support, RAC, RMAN, partitioning)
* Hands‑on experience with Elasticsearch
* Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines
* Solid experience with Docker and virtualisation technologies (VMWare ESX)
* Strong knowledge of Linux (RHEL), Solaris, and Windows Server
* Experience with Nginx and/or Apache Tomcat
* Experience working with ETL processes or data platforms
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
* Java (SE 8 / EE) and enterprise components (EJB, JSP)
* Exposure to IBM Initiate (MDM)
* Experience with GIS tools (OpenLayers, MapServer)
* Basic Python for maintaining legacy components
* Exposure to tools such as MinIO or FaceVACS
