De-escalation Training and practice officer (2) (Fixed Term)

East/West

£23,224.77 - £24,766.60

£29,081.46 - £31,012.09

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two committed and enthusiastic De-escalation training and practice officers (28.75 hours West and 36 hours East) to join the Supporting Learners Service. The full time East post will be based in Militia House, Dumfries and the Part time post will be based in West Inclusion base, Minnigaff.

These roles will support the delivery and implementation of positive handling and de-escalation training across Dumfries and Galloway. These positions are term-time over 39 weeks per year until July 2027. Prior experience in planning, delivering and evaluating training programmes would be advantageous.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

These positions may be suitable for a Secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post on a secondment basis.

Interviews for this post will take place on 1st of July.

Key responsibilities:

* To assist in the provision of a service delivering assessment, training, advice and support in relation to the de-escalation and crisis intervention of children and young people who present dysregulated, distressed, challenging and aggressive behaviours.
* To be a visible, accessible individual who can provide knowledge and expertise in de-escalation and crisis intervention within the legal, professional and ethical framework as established by national legislation, professional regulatory bodies and local policies and procedures.
* To be a highly capable practitioner modelling expert knowledge and decision-making skills in de-escalation and crisis intervention.
* To ensure staff are adequately trained and supported by developing, delivering and evaluating training following thorough assessment and analysis of pupil needs.
* To assist the Principal Teacher and Supporting Learners Managers with monitoring, reviewing and auditing policy and practice implementation related to de-escalation and crisis intervention.
* To attend professional training updates as required and be able to demonstrate continuing professional development.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
