This is an exciting opportunity to join us as the General Manager for the Dental Hospital, Adult Ophthalmology and OMFS on a one year fixed term basis.
The successful candidate will manage services and teams across the Royal London and Whipps Cross Hospitals, together with a range of off site dental services. The appointee will work in close collaboration with QMUL, our university partner.
This role is based in the Surgery Division, which is the largest and most complex division in one of the largest and most complex Trusts in the country. This is both a challenging and very exciting place to work.
This is a fast paced, high profile and varied role, with scope for the successful candidate to work on both strategic and operational priorities.

Main duties of the job
The Associate General Manager is a key management role and is responsible for the
operational delivery of all aspects of the service areas. Key aims are:
• To co-ordinate the operational delivery of services within the portfolio of responsibility to ensure the safe and effective use of all resources. Specifically, to take a lead in achieving key performance targets in line with local and national agreements.
• In partnership with the Clinical Directors, Service Group leads, and General Manager take operational management responsibility - with the specialty Lead Clinicians, Nurses, Operational Managers and Heads of Department within the OMFS, Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics department for the delivery of the Division’s financial and operational priorities.
• Provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management support for
the specialties of OMFS, Oral Surgery Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.
• Operationally lead the Dental General Anaesthetic unit and manage the relationship with community specialty services who utilise our service.
• Provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management support for
the specialties of OMFS, Oral Surgery Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.
• Deputise for the General Manager, acting with delegated authority as granted to lead on tasks and in key meetings. Support the wider directorate under the direction of the General Manager.
• Support the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians, Division Manager and General
Manager to ensure that the services are responsive, innovative and provide the highest possible clinical and performance standards.
• Lead on ensuring that all performance/quality targets are met. Design and implement mitigation plans where services are off plan,
• Problem solve as appropriate, and develop and implement lasting solutions in
conjunction with clinical colleagues
• To be a key member of the Management Team, taking full responsibility for actions
and for keeping other team members fully informed at all times
• Act as an ambassador for the Trust and as a Senior Manager of the Trust working in an ethnically and culturally diverse area, promote the Trust’s Equality and Diversity policy and goals.
• Maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to QMUL, commissioners and colleagues across Barts Health. Play a key role in facilitating cross-site working.
• The post holder will manage a team based across the Royal London and Whipps Cross Hospitals and will be expected to travel to both sites regularly.
