THE ROLE We're looking for a Marine Fleet Engineer to ensure our vessels are maintained to the highest standards, ready to support our operations on the Thames and Medway. This role is central to the safe, efficient, and reliable running of our fleet. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The duties are many and varied, but the list below is considered to be the basic requirement: Maintain and repair the fleet of vessels, ensuring they are always ready to operate. Annual leave cover for the marine engineers Sick leave cover for the marine engineers. On call for breakdowns of vessels. Oversee the safe operation of engines, generators, and associated machinery. Monitor, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. Ensure all activities in the engine room and technical areas are carried out safely and responsibly. Keep accurate records, including engine room journals, maintenance logs, and statutory paperwork. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, providing solutions and recommendations. Lead and manage engineers, and act as sole engineer on board when required. Participate in shipyard repairs, drydocking, and maintenance periods. Monitor fuel, lubricating oil, and freshwater levels. Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory guidelines (MCA, Flag State, PLA, ISM Code, MARPOL, IMO, and other relevant legislation). Engage with stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Professional and analytical Marine Engineer with a hands-on approach. Minimum MCA Approved AEC 1 & 2 or 3000GT/less than 9000kw or above. Valid ENG 1. Strong understanding of marine regulations and legislation. Sea or river-going experience, ideally on river vessels, barges, tugs, or workboats. Minimum 5 years' experience. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong administrative and computer skills. Flexibility to cover holidays as sole engineer.
