Are you an experienced teacher who thrives in environments where every day truly matters? We’re supporting specialist and mainstream SEN settings across Gateshead who are looking for dedicated, adaptable SEN Teachers to join their teams.

About the role

You’ll be working in nurturing, well-supported SEN provisions that support pupils with:

1. Autism and communication needs
2. SEMH and behavioural challenges
3. Complex learning needs or medical requirements
4. Cognition and learning delays

Your days might include leading small-group learning, planning creative lessons tailored to pupil needs, and working closely with TAs, therapists and the SENCO to make learning feel safe and accessible.

Requirements for a SEND teacher

5. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
6. Experience working in a classroom setting, ideally with SEND pupils
7. A nurturing, consistent approach and plenty of enthusiasm
8. Confidence working alongside TAs, therapists, and SENCOs
9. Have a genuine passion to support children with SEN needs.

What you’ll be doing as a SEND Teacher

10. Planning and delivering tailored lessons that meet pupils exactly where they are
11. Creating calm, structured learning spaces that help pupils feel safe and ready to learn
12. Adapting the curriculum to suit a wide range of needs, from autism and SEMH to complex learning needs
13. Building trusted relationships with pupils who rely on consistent, steady adults
14. Working closely with TAs, therapists, SENCOs and pastoral teams to join up support
15. Using clear communication and visual strategies to support understanding
16. Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing throughout the day
17. Leading small-group work and 1:1 activities to build confidence and independence
18. Keeping accurate, helpful records that inform planning and EHCP reviews
19. Talking with parents and carers to ensure everyone is working as a team
20. Bringing patience, creativity and resilience to every lesson
21. Modelling a calm, dependable presence that helps pupils thrive

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
