Sitting in the Insurance Directorate, the General Insurance Policy team drive the Directorate’s policy-making agenda to deliver robust rules in support of the FCA's objectives. The team is responsible for the conduct rules relating to general insurance (including ICOBS and PROD 4) and funeral plans (FPCOB) and the development of wider policy relevant to the sector
Role responsibilities
5. Helping to lead policy projects on insurance matters, including assessing causes of harm to consumers and markets, developing, and implementing remedies, collaborating with policymakers, supervisors, and other specialists across the FCA
6. Drafting proposals, committee papers, guidance, and other policy papers
7. Building productive relationships and managing internal and external stakeholders
8. Providing internal consultation to colleagues on existing rules applicable to insurance firms
Skills required
Minimum:
9. Demonstrable experience drafting policy in a policy-focused role, with a good understanding of the FCA’s policy-making process
10. Prior experience and working knowledge of the parts of the FCA Handbook owned by the team (particularly ICOBS, FPCOB, PROD 4)
11. Demonstrated experience in a role which has required clear written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to cultivate and manage stakeholder relationships across all levels
Essential:
12. Prior experience leading policy projects or strategy projects, demonstrating knowledge of the regulatory requirements on insurance firms
13. Good judgement and an ability to quickly identify relevant issues from a wide range of data points and present the outcomes of your analysis quickly, clearly and effectively
14. An organized thinker with a structured approach and a risk-based approach to decision making, including the ability to reach sound and timely judgments and an ability to produce consistently high-quality output to tight deadlines
15. Effective written, oral and in-person communication and the ability to persuade stakeholders at all levels, including delivering difficult messages
16. Willingness to learn and develop, taking on new responsibilities, managing shifting priorities and adopting a flexible and pragmatic approach to an often-demanding workload
