The Opportunity
This role is available on a contract basis (outside IR35) and they are also recruiting for this position on a permanent basis, offering a salary of £75,000–£90,000 per year plus benefits, depending on experience and working arrangements.
This opportunity has arisen due to continued growth and expansion within a well established engineering design consultancy delivering critical projects across the regulated water sector. With a strong and growing workload, the team is strengthening its technical leadership capability to support current projects and future frameworks.
You will take on a pivotal leadership role, managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams while acting as a technical authority for water related design activities. The position offers the chance to influence design standards, implement best?in?class engineering solutions, and mentor the next generation of engineers.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
* Lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates
* Act as Professional Head for the design function within water engineering
* Lead the delivery of safe, compliant, efficient, and value engineered design solutions
* Ensure designs meet all relevant technical, professional, and water company standards
* Approve design packages and provide technical governance across projects
* Drive the use of appropriate design software, BIM, and 3D modelling
* Manage the production of integrated design deliverables aligned with safety, quality, and programme requirements
* Review, interpret, and communicate standards, procedures, and regulatory changes
* Manage design programmes to agreed timescales, budgets, and formal processes
* Ensure design changes are fully captured, recorded, and controlled
* Lead design estimate development, including forecasting of design hours and resources
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
* Extensive experience working within the regulated water industry
* Proven background in delivering and approving complex water engineering designs
* Experience leading or managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Graduate or HND qualified in an engineering discipline
* Strong IT capability and familiarity with modern design tools
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership)
* A proactive leadership mindset with the ability to influence and inspire others
It's great if you also have the following
* Understanding of MEICA, civils, and process design
* A track record of managing multiple projects and technical teams simultaneously
* Experience driving BIM and digital engineering adoption
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

This role is primarily hybrid with occasional site visits, offering stability while maintaining exposure to live project delivery.
