Job Title: Training Engagement Officer

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD

Department: Adult & Community Learning (Maternity Cover)

Reporting to: Learner Recruitment Manager

Salary: £25,276 - £27,604 per annum actual salary

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus bank holidays

Contractual hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks

Basis: Fixed Term Maternity cover until October

Pension: NEST Pension


The Role

We are looking for a motivated and people focused Training and Engagement Officer to support adult learners and promote our training provision. You will work closely with candidates, the DWP, and community partners to promote courses, manage referrals, and support learners through enrolment. The role includes outreach, delivering Information, Advice and Guidance sessions, and ensuring strong learner engagement.

Although this role is offered on a fixed-term basis, it provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within the College. We are committed to developing our staff, and once established, there may be opportunities to apply for other roles and progress within the organisation.


Key Responsibilities

* Engage with candidates on a face to face basis, providing support and guidance throughout their learner journey.
* Enrol candidates onto appropriate courses, ensuring all processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
* Liaise effectively with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and candidates to support referrals and programme engagement.
* Attend outreach activities and actively promote Adult & Community Learning courses to attract new learners.
* Demonstrate strong customer service and people skills when supporting learners, partners, and stakeholders.


Qualifications

* Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
* Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) qualification (Level 2 or above) (Desirable).
* A commitment to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
* Full UK Driving Licence.


Experience

* Strong customer service & people skills (Essential).
* Experience working in a learner-facing role within education, training, employability, or stakeholder engagement (Essential).
* Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with external partners such as Job Centre Plus, DWP, and community groups (Essential).
* Experience in monitoring and reporting on learner engagement and attendance (Desirable).


Knowledge & Skills

* Strong understanding of adult education, and skills funding streams (e.g., Adult Skills Funding, NEET, Distance Learning).
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners and stakeholders.
* Proficient in using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
* Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity, and data protection principles.
