CAMHS Principal Clinical Psychologist (N&S SCAAND) – full-time band 8b post within the multi-disciplinary Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND) based at the Michael Rutter Centre, London.
Job summary
National and Specialist CAMHS present an opportunity to recruit a highly motivated and experienced clinician to a Principal Clinical Psychologist post within SCAAND. The role primarily contributes to care of young people with intellectual disability, including input to the Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) pathway. SCAAND provides diverse, collaborative, evidence-based mental health care with access to CPD and training opportunities.
Main duties
* Work as a Principal Clinical Psychologist in the SCAAND multi-disciplinary team, contributing to comprehensive MDT assessments and providing specialist psychological and cognitive assessment, formulation and interventions for children and young people and parents/carers.
* Provide consultation, training and support to local CAMHS clinicians and multi-agency networks; provide supervision, line management and support within the team.
* Support psychological aspects of case formulation and planning within the MDT; participate in teaching/training internally (including KCL DClinPsy) and to external services.
* Collaborate with service and pathway leads to support clinical governance, audits, research, service evaluation and quality improvement projects; lead on service development relevant to the post-holder2s specialisms.
* Work with other clinical psychologists in SCAAND and MDT colleagues; ensure access to evidence-based staff support across the service.
About the post and locations
SCAAND is based at the Michael Rutter Centre for Children and Young People, Denmark Hill, South London. Travel to community settings (home visits, schools) and across the Trust and nationally may be required. The Trust HQ is at Denmark Hill; relocation to the Maudsley site is anticipated in late 2025/early 2026.

Qualifications
Essential
* Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent) accepted by HCPC for professional registration
Desirable
* Training/experience in autism-specific assessments (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R) and additional post-graduate training in relevant psychological models (Positive Behaviour Support, DBT, etc.).
* Management qualification or line management experience.
Experience
Essential
* Substantial experience as a clinical specialist in a CAMHS setting with young people with intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental conditions of significant complexity.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental/intellectual disability presentations in children and adolescence.
* Experience proposing and implementing service development projects within the service.
Knowledge
Essential
* Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and evidence-base for treatments for young people with intellectual disability, autistic young people and related presentations.
* Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.
* Ability to select and administer specialist psychological assessments and interpret complex data from multiple sources.
Desirable
* Understanding of consultation and clinical supervision of psychologists and non-psychologists related to intellectual disabilities, mental health and safeguarding.
Skills
Essential
* Advanced selection and administration of psychometric and neuropsychological tests, including those requiring complex manipulation.
* Consultation skills with multi-professional teams; managing multiple people’s needs within therapeutic work/consultation.
* Ability to work with clients and systems to maximise therapeutic outcomes in complex emotional relationships.
Desirable
* Specialist practitioner skills in managing challenging behaviours (e.g., self-injury).

* Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to team functioning and holding team roles.
