Main Purpose of Job:
1. To lead, manage and develop the Humanities curriculum area.
Teacher Responsibilities:
2. Carrying out the duties of a teacher as set out in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, the DfE Teachers’ Standards and the SHS Teacher
Job Description;
3. Maintaining and developing the ethos, values and overall purposes of the school;
4. Maintaining high standards of learning and student conduct;
5. Implementing school policies and procedures;
6. Communicating politely, effectively and appropriately with students, parents and all SHS staff;
7. Ensuring high standards of safeguarding.
Humanities Lead Responsibilities:
8. Ensuring that Humanities lessons are engaging and that students can participate in independent learning;
9. Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the school;
10. Line Managing staff within Humanities;
11. Maintaining high standards of learning and student conduct as set out in the Teaching and Learning Policy;
12. Promoting teamwork and motivating staff within Humanities for effective working relations;
13. Communicating as the Humanities lead with outside agencies as required;
14. Attending meetings and providing reports and information as required to support the meeting;
15. Implementing school policies and procedures;
16. Ensuring ‘I can’ ’targets and Humanities ‘G-Steps are relevant;
17. Ensuring lessons are inclusive;
18. Ensuring Annual Review comments are written before the Annual Review takes place;
19. Ensuring EHCP targets are met.
20. Managing any relevant budgets.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
21. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)or equivalent
22. Degree in a Humanities subject(History, Geography, Religious Education, etc.)
23. Proven track record of outstanding teaching in at least one Humanities subject at secondary level
24. Experience in curriculum development and assessment
25. Previous leadership or coordinator experience (e.g., Head of Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or similar role)
26. Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
27. Commitment to inclusive education and whole-school values
