Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description
Al-Khair Secondary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support secondary students with special educational needs. You will work closely with teaching staff to support classroom learning, routines, transitions, and behaviour management, in line with the school’s Islamic ethos and inclusive values.
You will work with teachers and the SENCO to support secondary students’ learning, wellbeing, and behaviour. This includes assisting in classroom activities, providing individual and small-group support, offering pastoral care, and contributing to personalised learning plans (IEPs/EHCPs) tailored to students’ needs. The role also involves maintaining a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment and collaborating with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
* Develop trusting relationships with students and encourage independence
* Adapt support to meet individual academic, social, and emotional needs
* Promote positive behaviour and implement IEPs/EHCPs
* Assist in planning and delivering differentiated learning activities
* Support a broad, balanced curriculum and use ICT to enhance learning
* Observe, monitor, and report student progress
* Supervise a class in the teacher’s short-term absence if required
* Collaborate with colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals
* Uphold the values and ethos of Al-Khair Secondary School
* Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above
* Experience working with secondary-aged students with SEN
* Strong literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills
* Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
* Understanding of adapting support to individual needs
* Awareness of safeguarding principles
* Calm, flexible, and resilient under pressure
* Enjoyment of working with young people, empathy, discretion, and a positive attitude
