Our client is looking for a Senior Linux System Administrator to join their expanding organisation that powers some of the world’s most important applications in healthcare, finance and government. The company is privately held, headquartered in the UK & USA, with offices worldwide. Their software products are used daily by millions across more than 100 countries, with 200+ employees in the UK and 1,800 globally.
You will be based in the client’s new office near Windsor train station, working in the office 3 days a week due to the company's vibrant culture.
Your role involves designing cage, rack, and server layouts, ensuring space, power, and cooling support existing and future solutions. You will collaborate with engineering teams to optimize performance, efficiency, and operability of hosted solutions.
As a senior Linux System Administrator, you will support all hosted services, ensuring incidents and problems are resolved promptly and deploying approved changes as needed.
The core technical environment:
* Linux deployment and management experience with RHEL
* Automation experience with Puppet; experience with Ansible or Chef is a plus
* VMware 6 deployment and management experience (handling hundreds of virtual servers)
You will work in a mission-critical production environment. It is essential that you have experience working with live environments, as server downtime is not acceptable. Troubleshooting, proactive problem identification, and fixing issues swiftly are key skills.
Responsibilities:
* Lead deployment of new applications and changes, ensuring documentation and monitoring
* Hands-on administration and maintenance of hosted solutions, including firewalls, switches, servers, and storage
* Provide technical support across all hosted services
* Lead provisioning and deployment of server, network, and hosting equipment, including configuration and building
* Collaborate with stakeholders to obtain pre-operational sign-offs
