Band B £25,034 to £26,598 (pro rata) per annum depending on experience

Could you help us to provide care to patients at the end of their lives?

Our Hospice at Home team are passionate about providing the highest quality of care and support to a patient and their loved ones.

To be successful in this role you will need proven care experience, an NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent, and be passionate about providing good quality palliative care to people in their own homes. You will also be an excellent communicator and able to work well on your own, within a very supportive team.

This role covers shifts across 7 days a week.


Main duties of the job

Our Senior Healthcare Assistants (SHCAs) work as part of a caring, inclusive and supportive team all with the same passion, compassion, knowledge and skills to support both the patient and their loved ones in their own homes at a difficult and precious time.

As Senior Healthcare Assistant you willdeliver this by working alongside a Hospice at Home Sister providingprofessional care and support to our patients and families in their own homes

Key Roles and Responsibilities

* Attend to patients in their ownhomes, providing personal care such as feeding, washing and repositioning andgiving medications.
* Sit with patients to allowfamilies/carers to rest, liaising with the Sister on duty to report changes incondition, a need for medication or to ask for assistance.
* Provide emotional support tofamilies.
* Support Registered Nurses andSisters with care after death.
* Provide after death informationfor families, including contacting funeral directors, certification of deathand bereavement support.
* Document care given on theelectronic database used by the hospice.
* Take reasonable care for your own safety and thesafety of others. Adhere to all Health& Safety requirements, including Covid-19 secure processes and procedures.
* Promote a culture of continuous learning anddevelopment and wellbeing. Identify your own learning anddevelopment needs and ensure your mandatory and essential training is up todate. Help to create an environment that is continuallycritically questioning practice and promoting learning.
* Playan active part in team meetings and ensure your mandatory and other relevanttraining is kept up-to-date.

InfectionPrevention

All Rowcroft Hospice employees in both clinicaland non-clinical roles are required to adhere to theInfection Preventionand Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards ofinfection control at all times to reduce the burden of Healthcare AssociatedInfections including MRSA.

Youagree to the following responsibilities:

* To decontaminate your hands prior to and afterdirect patient care or contact with the patient's surroundings;
* To take part in mandatory infection controltraining provided;
* To responsibly manage your own infections (otherthan common colds and illness) that may be transmittable to patients, includingto contact Occupational Health for guidance.

Placeof Work

Thisrole has been identified as a Fieldworker (role could be carried out at a Rowcroft site or other location,including home, subject to the varying needs of the role. Will spend planned time at Rowcroft sites orother locations as the role requires which could include patient homes andRowcroft and non-Rowcroft locations to meet the needs of the service).

Thiswill be fully discussed and agreed with the postholder to meet individual andbusiness needs.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience in a healthcare setting
* Experience in the community or in a hospice


Qualifications

* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in healthcare
* Palliative care module


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent customer service towards all internal and external customers.


Personal Requirements

* Access to transport.
* Able to work on your own in peoples homes, including overnight.
* Friendly, welcoming and inclusive.
* A positive can do attitude and a problem solving approach.
* A commitment to continually learn and develop.
* Leadership through creative problem solving, a positive can-do attitude and a willingness and desire to ensure all who come into contact with Rowcroft have the best possible experience.
* Proven ability to be part of a committed and hardworking team in line with the ethics and values of Rowcroft Hospice, acting in the best interests of Rowcroft at all times.
* Willing and able to volunteer for at least one Rowcroft event each year.
