Offer description

The outpatients department is looking to recruit a nurse to work in the outpatients clinic. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day nursing support of the clinic, assist in procedures and provide support and reassurance to patients attending the clinic. The successful applicant will be encouraged to further knowledge and skills in the area of outpatient nursing. Main duties of the job

The post holder will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines and take responsibility for:

* Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
* Assessment of care and health education needs
* Development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care including referring patient to community services when necessary.
* Under supervision, to gain experience and skills in Clinical Practice, facilitation and teaching and management as appropriate.
* To work in accordance with Whittington Health Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and contribute towards achieving the Trust objectives.
* To take charge of the department in the absence of senior nursing staff following performance appraisal review.
* Provide support to the clinical nurse specialists in the various outpatient clinics.
* Assist in carrying out Health & Safety, Fire and hand Hygiene audits as required.
* Support the Health Care Assistants and assess their competence where necessary.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is expected to have a flexible can do approach in ensuring the work of the department is carried out to the required high standards. The post holder will contribute to the continuous evaluation of systems to improve the service and meet targets.

Communication

* Assist patients to gain access to health and social care, information and support relevant to their needs.
* Participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with the patient and their carer(s)
* Provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.
* Complete patient documentation correctly, appropriately and in a timely manner ensuring this is filed properly in the patients medical notes.
* Develop communication skills to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carer(s) and other staff, overcoming barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate training.
* Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues.

Personal and People Development

* Educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.
* Participate in annual staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework
* Attend Trust/local orientation programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates.
* Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills, and professional awareness in accordance with CPD requirements and maintain a professional profile.
* Help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a mentor in the supervision and teaching of nursing students/ health care assistants and others to develop their competence.
* Develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student education programmes that develop competence and performance.
* Assist in the training and developments of Health Care Assistants
* Act as a preceptor/mentor for junior staff nurses
* Take part in reflection and appropriate learning from practice, in order to maintain and develop competence and performance.


Person Specification


Qualification and experience

* Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
* Working in a team
* Work in a Health Care or related setting Good standard of written and spoken English
* Relevant Mentorship/Teaching Course


Communication

* Demonstrates awareness of the importance of working as part of the multidisciplinary team
* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
* Communicates with patients and carers in an empathetic manner
* Demonstrates understanding of good practice in Customer Care


Personal and people Development

* Demonstrates understanding of own role within the team
* Willing to produce a personal development plan with Manager
* Willing to develop self & undertake in-house study


Health,Safety and Security

* Promotes, monitors and maintains best practice in health, safety and security
* Understands importance of decontaminating equipment following use
* Understands principles of Infection Control


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£37,259 to £45,356 a yearpro-rata Per annum inclusive of HCAs
