Primary Role Purpose

The Haven Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Human Resources Advisor to lead the delivery of operational HR across the organisation. Supporting approximately 65 employees working in a domestic abuse context, this is a standalone role with responsibility for the full employee lifecycle, combining hands‑on delivery with expert HR guidance. The postholder will act as the organisations internal HR subject matter expert, providing practical and solution-focused advice to managers and staff. While operating autonomously, the role is well‑supported through an HR Administrator, external HR system providers, and access to employment law specialists and policy support. Working within a trauma‑informed environment, the Senior HR Advisor will play a key role in maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace culture. The role requires patience, sound judgement and emotional resilience, recognising that staff operate in high‑pressure settings and carry significant risk within their day‑to‑day business. This is an operational leadership role, focused on implementation, compliance and people support, delivering the organisations HR priorities in line with guidance from the Senior Leadership Team.


Organisational Accountability

As the manager or service lead for their business area, the postholder will be jointly responsible with their wider peers in ensuring The Haven Wolverhampton fulfils its objectives and operates effectively and ethically. The postholder will prioritise the experience and welfare of service users and will fully understand relevant safeguarding policy and procedure in order to best support and protect them from harm. The postholder will report directly to the Senior Leadership Team member for their business area and will be prepared to support and cover as required. The postholder will be responsible for delivering the strategic objectives of their business area through operational delivery and will form local operational objectives as part of this. The postholder will ensure that the organisation operates within legal and regulatory requirements and is contractually compliant. The postholder will engage a robust performance management framework which prioritises compliance from a safeguarding, legal and contractual perspective. The postholder will manage and direct day to day operations through robust, supportive and visible leadership. The postholder will act as the senior escalation point for all operational queries within their business area and will provide peer support and cover across the structure as needed. The postholder will prioritise the support, development and welfare of their direct reports and foster an environment which is efficient, productive, developmental and supportive. The postholder will proactively address compliance and delivery concerns identified within the organisation and contribute towards an environment of accountability and continued improvement.


Principle Accountability

* Act as the first point of contact for employees and managers, providing advice and guidance on employee relations matters including absence, disciplinary and grievance procedures, performance, probation, welfare and wellbeing.
* Provide leadership and support to the Business Administrator to ensure efficient human resource processes, accurate data management, and continuous improvement of systems.
* Maintain and review HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, safer recruitment requirements, GDPR and organisational standards.
* Manage the end‑to‑end recruitment and onboarding process, supporting managers with job descriptions, advertising, interviews, pre‑employment checks and induction.
* Support managers in effective people management practice, including supervision standards, performance management, capability processes and absence management.
* Develop practical in‑house manager guidance and toolkits to strengthen management confidence and consistency across the organisation.
* Coordinate the organisations training and compliance framework, maintaining the skills matrix and ensuring mandatory and role‑specific training requirements are met.
* Facilitate employee engagement initiatives, including the Employee Voice Forum, and support a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
* Maintain and utilise the HR information system to ensure accurate record‑keeping, produce regular people metrics (e.g. absence, turnover, training compliance) and support informed decision‑making by SLT.
* Oversee payroll data accuracy within the HR system, ensuring timely and accurate processing in liaison with system providers and finance colleagues.
* Provide operational HR insight and implementation support to SLT in relation to workforce planning and organisational development initiatives.


Additional Accountability

The postholder may be expected to undertake wider duties outside of the scope of this job description on an ad‑hoc basis which are appropriate to the level of the role and experience of the individual.
