Overview
The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated Science Technician Manager to lead the Department. The post holder will work closely with the teachers to facilitate the practical components of the courses and maintain an efficient, safe, and effective service.
The role will include setting up and maintaining equipment, as well as the College’s laboratories in accordance with high standards of health and safety. The post is student facing and applicants must be confident working with young people. A high level of practical and organisational skills is essential. The post holder will need to have a background in science, including handling chemicals and previous experience of working as a Science Technician is highly desirable.
The post is available immediately on a permanent, part-time basis (85.62%). The post holder will be required to work term-time only from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (with 45 minutes unpaid lunchbreak). The hours may be adjusted each academic year to ensure coverage during the College Day.
The Department
The Department is housed in the County Building, along with other STEM subjects. The labs are fully equipped with data projectors, white boards, wi-fi, gas, water, and fume cupboards.
Students regularly progress onto university courses for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry and Midwifery.
Responsibilities
The post holder will line manage a team of four Science Technicians, providing support for the following courses:
* Biology A Level
* Chemistry A Level
* BTEC Applied Human Biology
Other responsibilities include leading practical support, ensuring safety and compliance, and coordinating with teaching staff to enable high-quality practical delivery.
Salary and Benefits
The starting salary for this post is between £24,848.64 (£29,022 FTE) and £25,608.94 (£29,910 FTE). Progression is on an annual increment scale to £27,075.61 (£31,623 FTE) per annum.
