About the Role
A leading UK environmental consultancy is seeking a Principal Aquatic Ecologist to lead freshwater ecology work across Scotland. Based in Glasgow or Perth, with flexible hybrid working, this is a key leadership role in a growing, purpose-led organisation.
You'll oversee technical delivery, support junior colleagues, and work closely with clients to deliver high-quality, sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Lead aquatic ecology projects and ensure technical excellence
*
Manage client relationships and mentor team members
*
Oversee EIA, HRA, and freshwater survey work
*
Support bids, tenders, and business development
*
Ensure project compliance with UK regulations
Requirements
*
5-10 years' experience in aquatic ecology
*
Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar
*
Strong knowledge of UK legislation and survey methods
*
EIA and HRA experience
*
Project and client management skills
*
Full UK driving licence
*
Membership of CIEEM, CIWEM, or similar
Desirable:
*
Chartered status
*
SFCC Electrofishing (Team Lead)
*
NatureScot protected species licences
