About the Role
The post holder will be based within the Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) Unit in the Experimental Medicine division of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, working on infectious disease with a focus on fungal disease. Areas of research may include, but are not limited to, fungal genomics, fungal disease and climate change, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), novel approaches to drug development, immune responses to fungal infections, and anti-fungal vaccine development. The post holder is expected to attract external funding for their research.
The successful applicant will join a new program at the University of Oxford on Fungal Biology in Human Health and Disease, funded by Oxford’s Strategic Research Fund. This program involves collaboration with the Department of Biology, the AMR group (Ineos Oxford Institute), and other partners such as the Oxford University Hospital, Vaccine Research Group, Jenner Institute, Pandemic Sciences Institute, Wellcome Programmes in Kenya, Vietnam, and Thailand, and the Ellison Institute in Oxford.
About You
* Hold a medical degree — Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), or equivalent
* Hold a CCT in infectious disease or clinical microbiology, be on the GMC specialist register, and have a license to practice in the UK
* Hold or be eligible to secure an honorary contract with the OUH NHS trust (or an appropriate alternative)
* Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage credibly with a range of stakeholders across Oxford medicine
