Overview
We are seeking an Associate Practitioner with relevant experience working in a laboratory to join the Blood Sciences Department at NHS Dumfries and Galloway. The post will be based at Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer, working closely with staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and utilising modern laboratory technology.
Responsibilities
* Work in all areas of the laboratory, including Haematology Automation (FBC and coagulation) and Biochemistry
* Analyse approximately 23,000 Haematology and 28,500 Biochemistry specimens annually
* Maintain blood and blood product storage equipment and stock management software
* Participate in lone working during extended working days and weekend shifts where required
* Adhere to UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and BSQR compliance
Qualifications
* Relevant experience in a laboratory setting
* Strong understanding of blood transfusion theory and guidelines
* Good organisational and communication skills; enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and innovative
* Capability to work independently and as part of a team
* Standard Disclosure Clearance

This is a fixed‑term post commencing 25 May 2026 and ending 22 February 2027.
