Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an interest in developing their public health career to join our team. The Hywel Dda Public Health Team works with Hywel Dda University Health Board and the three local authorities of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, and other key partners. This senior post within the Public Health Directorate will have a leadership role across the system and agreed portfolios of work. Key priority areas for the portfolio include health intelligence, healthcare public health and equity. Travel will be necessary within the Hywel Dda Health Board area and outside the area on occasion. The office base will be negotiable from either in Haverfordwest, Aberaeron, or Carmarthen.
Provide a knowledge base of, and advise on, key public health/health promotion issues. Ensure the dissemination of clear, accurate and consistent messages about the determinants of health and risks of ill health. Provide a specialist contribution to the work of colleagues within and beyond the NPHS, as appropriate. Lead the delivery of elements of the NPHS work plan, as appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Surveillance and assessment of the population’s health and well-being by contributing to regular assessment of the local population to identify and prioritise health, social care and well-being needs, and the potential for health gain.
* Contributing to reports, reviews and other outputs produced for the Local Health Board, Local Authority and other clients.
* Contributing to the collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of information on health and well-being.
* Lead on the development, implementation, management and assessment of public health/health promotion strategies and programmes based on identified areas of potential health improvement, the diversity of local needs and the reduction of inequalities.
* Manage the delivery of health promotion programmes where appropriate.
* Ensure that the prevention/promotion agenda is in the forefront of these strategies and programmes and is supported by evidenced based practice.
* Advise on the development of policy and strategy to promote health and reduce health inequalities in all the partner agencies.
Organisation & Context
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers. Our services are provided in four main hospitals (Bronglais, Glangwili, Prince Philip and Withybush), five community hospitals, two integrated care centres, 47 general practices, dental practices (including four orthodontic), 97 community pharmacies, 43 general ophthalmic practices, and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers, as well as numerous mental health and learning disabilities services.
