SharePoint Consultant (Freelance / Part‑Time)

Location - London (Hybrid/Remote)
Ir35 - Inside (Must use an umbrella company)
Role Overview
We are looking for a freelance SharePoint Consultant to support a series of upcoming projects on a part‑time, flexible basis. The ideal candidate will be hands-on in SharePoint configuration and customisation, while also bringing a solid understanding of technical architecture. This is not a senior enterprise architect role, but we require someone comfortable shaping solutions, advising on best practice, and delivering practical outcomes.
Experience within the Higher Education sector would be highly beneficial but is not essential.
The consultant will initially support scoping and discovery, followed by ongoing implementation and advisory work over several months.
Engagement Details
Freelance / Consultancy-based assignment
Part-time: Approx. 3 days initially for scoping
Followed by ~5 days per month (flexible)
Current estimate: 20-30 days over 6 months, with potential for further work depending on project needs
Remote working with occasional meetings (if required)Key Responsibilities
Conduct a discovery and scoping phase to understand current SharePoint usage, requirements, content, and workflows.
Provide technical guidance on SharePoint architecture, site structure, permissions, security, and governance.
Configure and customise SharePoint Online sites, libraries, lists, metadata, and automations (e.g., Power Automate).
Assist in planning and delivering migration activities, content restructuring, and adoption improvements.
Optimise existing SharePoint environments, identifying quick wins and long-term enhancements.
Produce clear documentation, including solution designs, configuration records, and governance recommendations.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
Provide light ongoing support and advisory input as needed.Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience as a SharePoint Online Consultant (freelance or in-house).
Strong hands-on ability with SharePoint configuration, site administration, and content management.
Understanding of SharePoint architectural principles, including:
Site collections, hubs, information architecture
Permissions models
Governance and lifecycle management
Experience with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) is beneficial.
Ability to translate business requirements into practical, scalable SharePoint solutions.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
Not required to be a very senior or enterprise-level architect - but must be confident advising and delivering.Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Have)
Experience working within the Higher Education sector
SharePoint migration tools (e.g., ShareGate, Mover)
Microsoft 365 governance and admin centre familiarity
Experience working with SMEs or mid-sized organisations
