Overview
The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term (up to 2 years) role for an experienced regulator with a background in energy, combustion plants, waste incineration or refineries. The role supports the delivery of environmental outcomes through regulation, strategy, stakeholder engagement and incident response.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects as required.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Qualifications & Experience
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge in the energy sector, with experience of combustion plants, waste incineration or refineries.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government bodies, trade bodies and academia.
* Strong teamwork skills, able to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
* Experience or ability to provide advice on statutory environmental and technical requirements.

Contract Length
Up to 2 years, fixed‑term.
