Applications are invited for two posts as Paediatric Senior Education Fellows (ST3+) in General Paediatrics. These posts are fixed term of 12 months, commencing in September 2026.
Southampton Children’s Hospital is a busy tertiary hospital covering all paediatric specialties. The posts involve providing care for general paediatric in‑patients and out‑patients, out‑of‑hours on‑call duties as part of the middle grade rota, undergraduate teaching for medical students from Southampton University, and support for postgraduate educational activities within the hospital. Additional clinical or non‑clinical interests will be supported throughout the post.
Essential requirements:
* GMC registration with a licence to practice and right to work in the UK.
* Completion of the MRCPCH clinical examination or equivalent.
* At least 6 years of specialty training and relevant higher specialty exams (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS).
* A portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression as per the curriculum for the speciality.
Responsibilities include:
* Clinical work as part of the general paediatric team covering acute admissions and ward care during normal hours.
* Participation in the middle grade on‑call rota covering all paediatric specialities (excluding PICU, NICU, and cardiology) during evenings, weekends, and nights.
* Involvement in the hospital’s extensive education programme with training from speciality paediatric teams, radiology, safeguarding and departmental case reviews.
* Undergraduate teaching for medical students from Southampton University Faculty of Medicine with the General Paediatric Consultant team.
* Collating feedback from students and working with educational leads to improve the undergraduate course.
* Contributing to the work‑based assessment of medical students.
* Coordinating and managing educational teaching programmes for junior trainees and MDT educational sessions.
* Evaluating, reviewing, and redesigning the delivery of Child Health undergraduate teaching.
What we’re looking for:
* An enthusiastic trainee keen to develop skills in the management of general paediatric and speciality paediatric patients in a busy tertiary hospital.
* Experience of teaching and a desire to contribute to a well‑established undergraduate programme.
* A trainee looking to take time out of run‑through training or to develop additional skills toward the end of training.
* Ability to work independently out of hours with appropriate clinical skills.
