Are you an aspiring Head of School?

Clare House School Porthcawl is seeking to appoint an ambitious and dynamic Assistant Head of School (0.2 FTE) to join our founding team.

This is a rare strategic leadership opportunity for a future Head of School to help shape the curriculum, pedagogy and professional culture of a new school community from the very beginning.

Working closely with the Executive Head of School, you will help establish the educational foundations, systems and professional culture designed to endure for future generations, while gaining the strategic leadership experience and mentoring needed to prepare for Headship.

Role overview

Lead the development of curriculum and pedagogy across Early Years through to Key Stage 2

Support the creation of a coherent, experiential and child-centred approach to teaching and learning

Work collaboratively with colleagues to establish consistent expectations for curriculum, teaching, assessment and professional practice

Coach and support teaching staff through professional dialogue, mentoring and development

Contribute to school improvement, evaluation and strategic planning

Deputise for the Executive Head of School where required

Combine this leadership responsibility with a 0.8 FTE teaching commitment within the primary phase

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification

A Master’s degree and/or additional professional qualifications such as an NPQ

Strong understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy and evidence-informed practice across the primary phase

Commitment to creating inclusive, relational and child-centred learning environments

Ability to lead and develop others through collaboration, coaching and professional dialogue

Confidence working strategically as part of a growing and values-led school community

Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to pupil wellbeing
