Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Carpentry and Joinery across a range of levels (Entry Level to Level 3), supporting learners to achieve their qualifications and develop the technical, professional and employability skills required for progression into industry or higher-level study.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and deliver engaging theory and practical lessons in Carpentry and Joinery.
* Teach across programmes such as City & Guilds and/or EAL qualifications.
* Embed Maths and English into vocational delivery in line with UK FE requirements.
* Differentiate learning to meet the needs of diverse learners, including apprentices and full-time students.
* Use digital learning platforms (e.g. Moodle or equivalent VLE) to support delivery.
Assessment & Quality Assurance
* Assess, internally verify and provide constructive feedback on learners' work in line with awarding body standards.
* Prepare learners for practical assessments and End Point Assessment (EPA) where applicable.
* Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance and achievement in line with college policies.
* Contribute to internal quality assurance processes and External Quality Assurance visits.
Student Support & Progress
* Act as a personal tutor, providing academic and pastoral support.
* Monitor learner progress and implement interventions where required.
* Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and professionalism.
* Support learners with progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further study.
Curriculum Development & Industry Engagement
* Contribute to curriculum planning and development to meet local labour market needs.
* Maintain strong links with local employers and industry partners.
* Ensure workshop environments meet current industry standards and health & safety regulations.
* Participate in open evenings, recruitment events and employer engagement activities.
Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry practices and developments in the construction sector.
* Engage in continuous professional development (CPD).
* Comply with safeguarding, Prevent, equality and diversity, and health & safety policies.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Construction department and across the college.
