Overview
Senior Staff Nurse - Emergency Department role at Your Office Toronto. Our ED sees in excess of 90,000 adult patients per year with a varied and diverse mix of clinical presentations. The department is fast-paced and challenging, providing a stimulating and supportive environment in which to work.
Responsibilities
* Provide sound professional leadership to staff at band 5 grade level and below. Work closely with the department senior sister / charge nurse and provide a support mechanism for them.
* Ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust policy guidelines. Promote the objectives of the Trust’s Vision and Philosophy for Nursing. Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
* Assist in the implementation of national improvement initiatives and targets (e.g., 4 hour target, The NHS Plan, National Service Frameworks, Essence of Care) and clinical governance.
* Take charge of patients’ care in the Resuscitation area and across all areas of the department.
* Designated responsibility for the management of the unit on a day-to-day basis; ensure a safe work environment for patients, staff, and the public.
* Be familiar with Trust policies (e.g., Fire, Violence, Major Incident, Bomb Alert) and coordinate for the ward and unit when required.
* Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and relevant guidelines.
* Assist in the effective use of resources; monitor standards of quality nursing care.
* Communicate effectively within the department at all times; handle and report complaints in accordance with Trust policy in the absence of the department senior sister/charge nurse and feedback to management as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
* Clinical expert within the ED nursing specialty; ability to lead, manage, guide and direct others; work with ED and wider multidisciplinary teams within the Trust.
* Commitment to ongoing development of ED nursing and the service provided to patients and staff. Willingness to gain experience across areas within a progressive department with development opportunities.
* Strong leadership and support within the ED team and with the practice development team and senior nursing team.
