Technical Architect
Contract: 6+ months
Hybrid: Guildford (Surrey) or Bournemouth (Dorset)
3 days in the office, 2 days homeworking
Rate: upto £475 per day (Outside IR35)

We’re supporting a leading insurer seeking an experienced Technical Architect to join their Architecture function. This role focuses on producing repeatable architecture patterns, creating infrastructure solution designs, and ensuring security and service quality across all deliverables. You’ll work closely with a broad mix of business and technical stakeholders and contribute to technology governance and assurance across the organisation.
Role Overview:
• Produce architecture patterns and infrastructure solution designs with strong focus on security and service
• Work closely with stakeholders at all levels to align technology with business and IT strategy
• Provide architectural assurance and quality-check peer deliverables
• Research emerging technologies and create business cases for approval through architectural design authorities
• Offer guidance during implementation phases by collaborating with SMEs (not a hands-on role)
• Support technology governance across multiple domains
• Work within a small team of Technical Architects, collaborating with Solution and Integration Architects
You Will Bring:
• Broad experience across enterprise technologies, ideally from holding multiple SME roles
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence from CEO level to technical SMEs
• Ability to translate business requirements into technology, security and service deliverables
• Solid understanding of security, risk identification and mitigation
• Experience producing proposals and articulating technology strategy value to senior stakeholders
• Background designing and supporting mission-critical infrastructure solutions
• Ability to self-start and manage your workload proactively
Required Skills:
• Experience with large-scale public cloud implementations (preferably Azure)
• Strong exposure to Windows, Linux, Web, Middleware, Databases, Security Gateways, Networking (LAN/WAN)
• Essential experience with MuleSoft API management
• Ability to design secure, high-performing, highly available technology solutions
• IT security and risk experience within an architecture role
• Experience in regulated environments (e.g., financial services) advantageous
• TOGAF/ITIL or similar qualifications beneficial but not essential
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences
• Knowledge of Waterfall and Agile methodologies
• Understanding of CI/CD methods and tools desirable
• Experience with contractual due diligence desirable
