Job Introduction

Would you like to be a part of an exciting new journey for a brand-new service providing day to day support for individuals with learning disabilities and mental health needs located in Cramlington?

Could you see yourself supporting our tenants to live fulfilled lives? Do you enjoy going on day trips, and exploring the local area to help source meaningful activities for our tenants? Would you be able to inject some liveliness into the boring tasks such as cleaning and cooking? Can you see yourself encouraging people to build relationships with the local community and helping the people we support maintain relationships with those important to them?

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to people’s lives and you may also make a positive difference to your own life. You will receive bespoke training and development opportunities. 100% of our management team in Northumberland began their career with Turning Point as a support worker.

Please note that experience in the mental health sector is essential. Some of our service users demonstrate challenging behaviours as part of there ongoing mental health recovery. This can manifest in extreme cases as self harm and emotional instability. Therefore the right candidate will need to possess a deep level of empathy, understanding and patience.

Shift Patterns

Please note that this is a waking nights position with shift patterns from 9pm to 9am.

Role Responsibility

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

promoting the independence of people we support

supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday

arranging activities in the home and in the local community

developing life skills and personal interests

helping our people stay safe and healthy.

assisting or prompting with personal care needs

supporting people with medication

ensuring record keeping is always maintained to the required standard and contributing to service monitoring requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

What skills and qualities do I need to have?

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:

passionate, caring, and enthusiastic

mental health experience

flexible, patient, and non-judgemental

a great team player with lots of energy

able to demonstrate good communication skills.

able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed.
