THERE ARE X2 POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR THIS POST.

This is a position as a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist. The post holder will join the existing team of substantive consultants based at The Royal Marsden, Sutton.

The successful applicant will be part of the consultant team providing care for children and young people with solid and CNS tumours, in conjunction with substantive paediatric oncologists Dr Sucheta Vaidya, Dr Lynley Marshall, Dr Julia Chisholm, Dr Fernando Carceller, Dr Julia Cockle, Dr Sally George, and Clinical oncologist Dr Henry Mandeville.

Main duties of the job

The person will also support the haemato-oncology team including Dr Donna Lancaster, Dr Mary Taj, Dr Sanjay Tewari, Dr Robin Dowse, Dr Elsje Van Rijswijk and Dr Caroline Furness. All consultants with FRCPath qualification contribute to diagnostic haematology reporting (CSF cytospins, blood films and bone marrows) at the Sutton based Centre for Molecular Pathology (CMP).

The post holder will work closely with the clinical nurse specialists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners to facilitate excellent care for patients under the team's care.

Essential criteria

1. Eligible for full GMC Registration
2. Membership of the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health or equivalent qualifications
3. CCT in Paediatrics or equivalent or within 6 months' of obtaining it. (Or equivalent CESR status)
4. BLS Training
5. Level 3 Safeguarding Training
6. Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application

Desirable criteria

7. Higher Degree (PhD/MD)
8. Teaching qualification
9. Valid APLS and NLS

Experience

Essential criteria

10. Broad based experience in paediatric oncology including early phase clinical trials experience
11. Organisation of education and training of junior doctors
12. Experience in medical audit
13. IT skills

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
