Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic HCPC-registered Healthcare Scientist to join our award-winning team at Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) Point of Care Testing (POCT) Community team. BSPS is a large network of NHS laboratories serving 6 acute NHS Trusts: Ashford & St Peter’s NHS FT, Frimley Health NHS FT, Royal Berkshire NHS FT, Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, Royal Surrey NHS FT, and Wexham Park Hospital NHS FT.
The POCT Community team is an innovative, pioneering, and progressive rapid POCT service. Responsibilities include managing roaming POCT equipment and static devices at community sites, ensuring effective integration of POCT into community-based services, and driving high-quality, patient-centred care. The team supports healthcare professionals in delivering care closer to home while maintaining quality standards and continuous improvement within community healthcare settings.
This role supports the Hospital at Home services and involves regular engagement with clinical teams of partner Trusts. The post requires working across sites and visiting all community services as needed. We welcome applications from all pathology disciplines relevant to POCT, as training for the specific community service will be provided.
Main Duties
The postholder will support and deputise for the POCT Community Coordinator to deliver efficient, high-quality POCT services across all supported community sites, including Virtual Ward, Hospital at Home, and Community Diagnostic Centres. The role involves deploying and integrating POCT devices with IT systems such as middleware, LIMS, and Electronic Patient Records, troubleshooting IT issues, developing data analysis procedures, training healthcare staff, creating user guides, and streamlining IT operations for clinical and operational decision-making.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc degree or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences or a similar subject
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
Desirable Qualifications
* IBMS specialist diploma in relevant discipline
Experience
* Proven experience in a pathology laboratory
* Experience in POCT and proficiency in related techniques
Desirable Experience
* Experience with Siemens Poccelerator, Clinisys WinPath, and Electronic Patient Records
Skills & Knowledge
* Ability to analyze data with frequent interruptions and respond promptly
* Risk identification, issue anticipation, and problem-solving skills
Additional requirements include the ability to handle stock weighing up to 25kg daily.
