West Lothian Council is committed to fostering a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from groups currently under-represented, including individuals with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities, or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are undergoing significant changes in how we deliver our Education Services, aiming to provide a supportive environment that enables staff development and high-quality service delivery. Our commitment is demonstrated by achieving the Investors in People Standard and continuously striving for improvement.
The new Hawkhill Primary School in Winchburgh will offer non-denominational education for up to 231 primary pupils upon opening in August 2025, with a nursery for up to 42 children to be established in subsequent years. This development addresses increasing demand in the growing Winchburgh Core Development Area, which is expected to see substantial new housing over the next decade.
The school will initially operate as a single stream with a flexible design allowing future expansion. Located on the eastern edge of Winchburgh, the site was identified in the 2018 West Lothian Local Development Plan and is positioned within a new housing community.
The school's design draws inspiration from the award-winning Calderwood Primary School, emphasizing innovation and flexibility. It features contemporary, two-storey learning spaces suitable for various teaching styles, including traditional classrooms and open-plan areas. The use of flexible furniture, double-height glazing, and vibrant colors will create a bright, lively environment that staff and pupils can adapt to their needs.
Hawkhill Primary will be part of the Winchburgh cluster, which includes Winchburgh Primary School. The cluster maintains strong collaborative relationships and effective transition arrangements with Winchburgh Academy.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to support breakfast club services and oversee lunch periods.
This position is classified as Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo an update check before receiving a formal offer of employment from West Lothian Council.
