As a Qualitative Research Associate, you will join a new consortium of academics, campaigners and analysts. We have come together to assess the impact that climate-related extreme weather has on the UK food system and quantify the possible future impacts as the world warms further.
Through this project, we will identify the extent of recent climate-induced food price shocks on UK food supplies, prices and production. We will use novel methods to quantify how projected climate change may have in the future on access to nutritious foods and, therefore, human health. To inform these aims, we will use qualitative and creative data approaches to ground the quantitative modelling.
The research associate will provide specialist research support to the project. This exciting role will involve preparing for, conducting, and reporting qualitative analyses and delivering insight relating to the impact of food price inflation on those experiencing food insecurity and their ability to access nutritious and affordable food. You will work closely with other members of the project team and collaborators, including staff and people with lived experience of food insecurity, food banks and alternative food spaces.
Educated to PhD level (or nearing completion), you will have expertise in conducting interviews using creative methods and other qualitative techniques appropriate to your field, and knowledge of poverty, food insecurity, and impact on health and nutrition in economically wealthy nations. As you will be responsible for conducting research that applies creative qualitative methods to the food-related experiences of food bank and social supermarket users at food outlets/venues across the UK, practical experience of working with individuals who are at risk of food insecurity and/or users of alternative food spaces would be an advantage.
