Reporting to the Lead Delivery Engineer
The Lead Civil Engineer will be responsible for the technical deliverables from the Civil Engineering Team. This includes ensuring quality and CDM2015 compliance of technical delivery. The role requires reviewing and implementing appropriate procedures and principles to safeguard this, alongside ensuring the competency of the civil engineering team to deliver their roles and responsibilities. The post holder will manage and coordinate multiple projects through the project teams.
Although this role offers flexible/hybrid working (office/home), you will be expected to travel to any location or site within South East Water’s supply areas, as required, as part of the project(s) you or your team are working on, e.g., pre-construction and construction phase elements such as scoping or Contractor progress/design review meetings, defect reviews, etc.
Accountabilities
* Implement a safety strategy aligned with CDM2015 as part of project delivery and enhance procedures and practices in this regard.
* Promote and implement innovation in design delivery, construction methodology, and asset operation.
* Liaise with customers, internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and to maintain and enhance the reputation of South East Water.
* Ensure technical excellence and best practice is employed in the delivery of project outputs.
* Performance manage staff, contractor, and supplier teams engaged on the project to ensure efficiency targets set by the business are met, in conjunction with satisfying all other project deliverables.
* Undertake Delegated Engineer, Mentor, and/or Supervising Civil Engineer roles for the team, promoting and encouraging Chartership with the ICE or CIWEM as appropriate.
Candidate Requirements
* A degree in Civil Engineering
* Excellent people management skills with experience of building teams and performance management.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Clear personal goals and objectives with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
* Substantial experience in the utility industry, preferably in potable water networks and treatment.
* Significant experience in design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets, including WTW, Booster plants, pipelines, services, and hydraulics.
* Experienced in technical delivery supporting projects and working in an integrated project team with consultants and contractors.
* Experienced in managing a large resource group with all associated People Management requirements (performance, development, recruitment).
* Commercially aware with a working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts.
* An understanding of risk, assessment, and mitigations/controls related to health and safety and contracts.
