The Vice‑Principal position is a full‑time role that combines teaching duties with senior leadership responsibilities within the school.


Professional Duties

* Formulate the aims and objectives of the school.
* Establish the policies through which they will be achieved.
* Manage staff and resources to achieve these aims.
* Monitor progress toward their achievement.
* Undertake the professional duties of the Principal delegated by the Principal.
* Perform the professional duties of the Principal in their absence as required by the Principal or employing authority.
* Entitlement to a break of at least 30 minutes between 12 noon and 2 pm.


Vice‑Principal Responsibilities (School Leadership)

* Lead learning through example by maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
* Assist the Principal in all areas of learning, teaching, school administration, management and organisation.
* Assist in School Development Planning, School Evaluation Self‑Evaluations and Staff Development (INSET).
* Coordinate the curriculum and oversee its delivery across Key Stages.
* Assist the Principal in curriculum development, including planning, benchmarking, target setting, PRSD and monitoring quality of provision.
* Act as assessment coordinator for the school.
* Promote positive behaviour and assertive discipline.
* Chair the Safeguarding Team and support gifted and talented programmes.
* Serve as Literacy Coordinator for the school.
* Assist with financial administration including budgeting, allocations, monitoring spend and reconciling accounts.
* Responsible for timetables and rotas.
* Maintain and promote links with parents, including membership of the PTFA committee.
* Assist in organising major school events.
* Responsible for extra‑curricular activities.
* Provide lunch‑time cover.
* Undertake such other duties as the Principal may require.


Qualifications & Experience – Essential

* Hold a teaching qualification recognised for teaching in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification teaching experience in primary education or equivalent within the last 10 years.
* Currently hold or have held for a minimum of 3 years (and within the last 8 years) a post with strategic leadership or coordination of a whole‑school area at a minimum level of Head of Key Stage, including monitoring and evaluation that has led to measurable school improvement.
* Experience as a post of Principal or Vice‑Principal, or another leadership role within an affiliated body.
* Evidence of how leadership has led to school improvement.
* Evidence of involvement in strategic planning.


Qualifications & Experience – Desirable

* Completion of an additional postgraduate (or equivalent) qualification in Education.
* Demonstrated involvement in staff development within schools.
* Experience of financial and/or budgetary management within schools.


Essential Knowledge

* Extensive knowledge of the Northern Ireland Primary Curriculum and current policies and procedures.
* Understanding of current educational developments and the ability to evaluate and respond to new educational challenges and manage change effectively.
* Proficiency in effective classroom pedagogy and ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and achievement throughout the school.
* Effective data management skills.
* Effective organisational management, including appropriate deployment of resources.
