Behaviour Support Practitioner

Contract: Full-time (via agency)

We are currently looking for a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate individual to join secondary schools across Middlesbrough, supporting young people with behavioural, emotional, and social needs.

This role is ideally full-time in order to provide continuity and consistency for pupils; however, as employment is through an agency, ongoing work cannot be guaranteed. It is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role

You will be working closely with students who may present with challenging behaviours, providing both emotional support and academic assistance throughout the school day. Success in this role requires patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

* Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs
* Encouraging engagement with learning and promoting positive routines
* Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative and positive strategies
* Acting as a consistent, reliable role model
* Supporting pupils during lessons, break times, and off-site activities where required
* Working collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals
* Adhering to safeguarding policies and maintaining high standards of care

About You

This role would suit someone who:

* Has experience working with children or young people, particularly those with emotional or behavioural needs
* Is dependable and able to commit to full-time hours where possible
* Remains calm, patient, and professional in high-pressure situations
* Enjoys engaging young people through positive interests such as sport, fitness, gaming, or structured activities
* Can maintain clear boundaries while building positive relationships
* Understands the flexibility and nature of agency-based employment

Desirable Skills & Experience

* Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Youth Work, Childcare, or a related area
* Previous experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEN setting, or youth work environment
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
