Job Overview
To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilisation of reusable medical devices. Work under the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems, ensuring safe systems are followed for patient safety. Full in‑house training will be provided. The role is part of a cohort of 8, and the start of a clear career progression pathway.
Main Duties
* Receive, disassemble and prepare reusable medical devices for cleaning.
* Clean, disinfect, inspect, assemble and sterilise surgical instruments under supervision.
* Operate within a quality‑controlled environment, adhering to SOPs and the Quality Management System.
* Maintain and update knowledge of instruments and decontamination procedures.
* Manage day‑to‑day work tasks, prioritise production targets and record all activities.
* Perform routine data entry and keep records of instrumentation, including tracking and tracing.
* Assist in the planning and ordering of supplies, maintaining stock rotation.
* Participate in audits, surveys and equipment testing as required.
* Work safely in a high‑traffic area, standing for prolonged periods and handling heavy trolleys.
Qualifications and Experience
* Previous experience in a team or quality‑led production environment.
* Experience working with customers or the public.
* Experience in a decontamination team.
* Basic numeracy, good hand‑to‑eye coordination, adequate vision and basic computer skills.
Personal and Behavioural Skills
* Good verbal and written communication with all disciplines.
* Motivation to learn and train within the post.
* Ability to work effectively in a team.
* Capacity to follow instructions at speed and sustain prolonged standing.
Probation Period
This position has a 6‑month probationary period unless the applicant is already on contract with the Trust.
