Summary
As a Technical buyer you will play a vital role in the procurement process by sourcing materials, goods, and services to meet the company's operational needs. Responsibilities will include supplier management, negotiation, purchasing, and supply chain optimisation.
Duties and responsibilities
Technical interpretation: Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Supplier management: Find, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, capability, and reliability. Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships.
Procurement: Managing the day to day ordering, ensuring goods arrive on time to meet MRP demand.
Negotiation: Lead price and contract negotiations to secure favourable terms, costs, and delivery schedules.
Procurement execution: Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring compliance with company policies.
Project Management: Understand customer project requirements.
Cost and risk management: Identify cost-saving opportunities, manage inventory levels, and mitigate supply chain risks.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams like Engineering, Quality and Production to understand project needs and resolve queries.
Problem-solving: Address and resolve any issues related to material quality, price, or delivery.
Qualifications
Professional Supply Chain Management Qualification, or Degree educated or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Proven experience as a buyer.
Experience required of working with an ERP system, specifically MRP
Experience in a similar global industry role (ideal but not essential)
Additional skills and requirements
Proven experience in Technical Purchasing in an Engineering/Manufacturing business
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Analytical skills to evaluate data, costs, and identify opportunities.
Technical aptitude, including the ability to understand engineering designs/specifications.
Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks, projects, and a large volume of data.
Knowledge of procurement processes and systems.
