Why This Job Matters
In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering BT’s Simplify transformation. You will be at the forefront of designing and engineering the next generation of technology to support BT's new IT architecture. Based on agile engineering, DevOps, and cloud-native principles, these software platforms offer a comprehensive set of business capabilities across eCommerce, customer relationship management, quoting, product catalogue, orchestration, service assurance, and IDAM. Your focus will be on developing API-driven integrations for the new IT, supported by Microservices, to underpin core integration capabilities. This involves building a standardised set of integration capabilities across the value and volume IT components.
You will concentrate on DevOps engineering best practices and build across SaaS vendor platforms as well as Cloud Native IaaS/PaaS applications on our strategic Cloud Platforms. Collaboration and engagement with your value stream stakeholders will be key to understanding and interpreting priorities, working with value stream product owners to prioritise their demands into your backlogs. You will be the subject matter expert for API and Microservices-driven integration work.
Responsibilities
* Technical Solutions: Create and implement technical solutions for a domain or cross-domains/portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and externally, and assessing the impact of change.
* Problem Resolution: Deliver resolutions to complex, cross-domain problems or those of high impact to customers.
* Standards Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working. Provide sound technical expertise to consult on significant components of a technical solution within a specific domain or cross-domain.
* Quality Assurance: Provide technical quality assurance over the work of other engineers through a matrix team structure.
* Integration Capabilities: Design and deliver strategic integration capabilities using Microservices and TMF open APIs where appropriate, or BT-defined open APIs as part of the Enterprise services/Integration squad.
* Software Engineering: Responsible for software engineering integration patterns across a wide variety of SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS-based applications.
* Team Leadership: Lead a squad of cross-functional developers and QA focused on building strategic integration capabilities using ReSTful API and Microservices.
* Deployment Architecture: Accountable for cloud-native deployment architecture for integration components, with a focus on highly scalable and resilient architectures.
* Roadmap and Backlog: Create, maintain, and regularly iterate a roadmap and backlog for the Integration squad.
* Operational Monitoring: Set up operational monitoring and reporting with engagement from the DevOps squad for the new IT Integration stack.
* User Feedback: Regularly seek feedback from users and use it, coupled with quantitative data, to iterate rapidly.
* Efficiency Delivery: Responsible for unlocking and delivering benefits/efficiencies in the squad, with assistance from squad members as required.
Skills
* Architecture and Solution Design: Skills in architecture definition and solutions design involving multiple components across architectural domains.
* Integration Key Areas: Knowledge of ReSTful API, Microservices, SOA web services, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
* Cloud: Good knowledge and work experience in AWS. Strong knowledge of authentication and identity-related technologies and protocols is an advantage – e.g. OIDC, OAuth2.
* Web Technologies and Containerisation: Proficiency in Java Spring, Docker, Kubernetes, with a heavy focus on automation and CI/CD practices.
* Agile Software Engineering: Strong skills and experience in building software in an agile team.
* User Story Decomposition and Management: Ability to take a complex design and break it down into features, stories, and tasks – working with the Agile SCRUM team to ensure a quality backlog with well-defined acceptance criteria that can be engineered.
* Growth Mindset: Reflect and learn constantly, and have a growth mindset - Build, measure, learn.
* IT Experience: Experience in the Enterprise telco business with specialist knowledge in at least one of Fixed & Mobile products, networks, sales, service, marketing, digital experiences.
* API and Data Monetisation: Understanding of API and Data monetisation options.
* Cloud Infrastructure as Code: Experience in Cloud Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation would be ideal.
* Certifications: Product owner certification, TMF accreditations, Cloud certifications such as AWS solutions architect.
