Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint a General Technician Electrical Instructor who will deliver electrical and electronics training to military engineering apprentices progressing through their technical training pipeline. The role focuses on teaching general electrical and electronic systems, power generation and distribution, and electro‑mechanical equipment, supporting learners through both practical and classroom‑based modules.
Responsibilities
* When not already holding a suitable teaching qualification, be responsible for attending, completing, and passing Level 4 (Certificate in Education and Learning) within 12 months of employment, which may require additional work in your own time.
* Prepare and deliver instruction on course modules in support of the training pipeline, including lesson planning, training aids, workbooks, and student handouts.
* Create and prepare relevant teaching and learning materials, utilising modern learning technologies, including Technology‑Enhanced Learning.
* Assist with the technical administration of training, course design processes, teaching and learning materials and equipment.
* Maintain a Continuous Personal Development (CPD) portfolio in respect of SQEP, innovative technologies and equipment, future training commitments and personal development requirements.
* Ensure lesson plans and training sessions are developed in accordance with the approved Learner Specifications, Course specifications and Course Training Plans.
* Review course material and content to ensure it is current and evolves to support equipment and technology advances, using the most appropriate training aids.
* Conduct and actively participate in teaching practice and observations to quality‑assess training delivery and identify areas for improvement to enhance the trainee experience.
* Assess trainees, including the creation of written examinations and progress test papers, practical assessment/examination scenarios and continuous assessments; mark examination papers, set and mark course and homework, and invigilate examinations and assessments.
* Ensure trainee development through monitoring, feedback appraisal, discipline and training interventions, maintaining all supporting documentation; flag any special trainee developmental needs or training delays to the Lead Trainer (LT); deliver remedial training and revision as necessary.
* Manage trainee administration, including course reports and trainee training records; attend course debriefs as required by the Lead Trainer.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of training delivery and seek to improve trainee achievement at every opportunity.
* Maintain accountability for items listed in Equipment Tables Scale (ETS) and Complete Equipment Schedule (CES) that support training.
* Ensure cleanliness, security, Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and environmental and engineering hygiene; keep trainees fully aware of these requirements.
* Supervise trainees and visitors to ensure full compliance with relevant health, safety and environment (HSE) and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements as required by The Company, the Authority and relevant to the equipment training department; assess and minimise risks; ensure the correct equipment is used for tasks.
* Ensure MOD Standing Orders and The Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) procedures are understood and implemented while conducting any work tasks.
* Identify, challenge and report unsafe practices using relevant systems.
* Identify and report faults and infrastructure issues using relevant systems.
* Participate in presentations to agencies and visitors.
* Perform any other reasonable duties which, in your Line Manager’s opinion, are within your capabilities to deliver the contract.
Qualifications
* Certificate of Education and Training to Level 4 or willingness to work towards it.
* BSc Level 2 Supervising Staff Safely or IOSH Managing Safely.
* HND in a relevant engineering discipline for subjects being taught (General electronics and electrical systems). – desired
* First degree in engineering (Electronics, Physics) recognized in a professional institution, relevant to subjects being taught for Advanced level (L4–L7) academic modules.
Desired Experience
* Supervisory experience (desired).
* Proven experience in a relevant working environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook packages (computer literate).
* Knowledge of the Royal Air Force trade structure and operational requirements, especially relevant to the No 5 Trade Group.
* Experience in supporting Airfield Support Equipment (ASE).
* Knowledge and experience of power generation and distribution systems, including single‑phase and three‑phase systems, electromechanical equipment.
* Experience in maintenance and fault finding on industrial electrical / power generation systems.
